Swim Meet 101
How To Mark Your Swimmer
How to mark swimmer’s arm for meets
Before arriving at a meet, it is helpful for swimmers to know what events/strokes they will be swimming. I will provide this information at practice the day of the meet.
1. Use a sharpie on a dry arm, before applying sunscreen. If you need help doing this, volunteers/coaches can assist your swimmer during check-in at the mock meet.
2. Reference the illustration below to draw a table on your swimmer's arm for each event, heat, lane and stroke.
E= Event
H= Heat
L= Lane
S= Stroke
3. Use stroke abbreviations to keep it simple and easy to follow.
Individual Events:
BA - Back stroke
FR - Freestyle
BR - Breast stroke
BU - Butterfly
IM - Individual Medley (order: fly, back, breast and free)
Relay Events:
IM Relay (1-4 swimmers) order: back, breast, fly, free*
FR Relay (1-4 swimmers) all freestyle*
*Under stroke, for relay events it is helpful to put the order your swimmer is in the relay in parenthesis, for ex. - FR Relay (2)
